Air for Highways

Outperform noise. Reduce disruption. Built to last. Certified acoustic performance with modular, rapid installation.

Rapid install Certified acoustic performance Design life up to 40 years

Introduction

Air is a modular acoustic barrier system for highways projects where speed, lifespan and acoustic certainty matter. Built from 99% recycled polymers and tested to BS EN standards, it’s engineered to cut roadside noise while keeping installation simple and programmes efficient.

Panels slot together for fast assembly with minimal plant. The durable surface resists weathering and impact, helping reduce maintenance cycles over the asset life.

Typical use cases
  • Road widening and new carriageways
  • Bypass schemes near residential areas
  • Bridge and junction improvements
  • Temporary works and compounds
Project outcomes
  • Meet acoustic targets with confidence
  • Shorten install windows and traffic management
  • Lower whole-life cost vs. traditional materials

Why Air for Highways?

Protect roadside communities, meet strict noise regulations and keep projects moving. Air reduces traffic noise, installs quickly during planned works, and delivers performance that lasts.

The issue

Noise icon

Noise from busy highways

Main roads and bypasses often generate high noise levels that affect nearby homes, schools and public spaces.

Why it matters

Community icon

Community wellbeing and compliance

Managing highway noise reduces complaints, supports planning approvals and ensures schemes meet environmental targets.

10 years vs 40 years: the lifecycle that saves

Timber barriers typically require replacement on a ~10-year cycle. Air has a 40-year design life - reducing replacements, disruption, waste, and cost.

Air acoustic barrier system

Air is engineered for proven acoustic performance and long-term durability. Each cassette is built with recycled PVC housings and delivers a 40-year design life. The Absorptive variant incorporates a natural mineral-wool core for enhanced sound absorption, while the Reflective variant delivers high airborne insulation through a solid cassette structure. Tested to BS EN 1793-1 and -2, Air achieves DLα = 8 dB (sound absorption) and DLR = 28–29 dB (airborne insulation). The quick-slot cassette system enables rapid installation with minimal plant use, improving on-site safety and efficiency.

END OF LIFE
Designed for circularity
End-of-life isn't the end. Air panels are deconstructed, reprocessed, and re-extruded into new components.

Designed for circularity

A simple promise: materials stay in use. From the very first extrusion to decades of reliable service, every Air barrier is designed to deliver both acoustic performance and long-term sustainability. The system minimises waste during manufacture, uses up to 99% recycled PVC, and is supported by a circular end-of-life programme that ensures each component is recovered, reprocessed and made ready for its next installation. This commitment to performance and reuse makes Air a defining step forward for noise control infrastructure.

FAQs

Explore the most common questions on Air for highway schemes, if you need project-specific guidance, don't hesitate to contact our expert team.

What acoustic ratings can Air achieve?
Certified to BS EN 1793: DLα = 8 dB absorption, DLR = 28–29 dB insulation. On-site performance depends on height, returns, and ground conditions.
What’s the difference between absorptive and reflective?
Absorptive reduces reflected noise; Reflective deflects sound. Choice depends on geometry and receptors.
How fast is installation?
Modular quick slot panels install rapidly with minimal plant. Actual rates depend on access and traffic management windows.
What panel heights are available?
Configurable to scheme requirements. Posts and centres are designed project-specifically.
What foundations are required?
Project-specific, depending on ground conditions and loadings. Guidance available for typical designs.
How durable is the system?
Designed for ~40-year service life with stable performance and low maintenance.
Is it resistant to weather and contaminants?
Yes - resistant to rot, weathering, salt spray and roadside chemicals.
Can Air be used for temporary works?
Yes - suitable for compound screening and temporary phases with proper foundation design.
What colours are available?
Standard finishes are Brown and Green. Custom finishes available based on order quantities.
Do you provide design support?
Yes - acoustic modelling, option comparisons and install guidance for project teams.
